So sorry to read of George’s passing! I’m sure he’s resting well knowing that he raised a wonderful family! I was lucky enough to have had all the Drmacich kids as students and Mary Pat as a long time volunteer in my classroom. They were all at the top of my list at Highland School!
My best to the family !

Every Friday and Saturday night at 11 pm I would welcome George from behind the bar, after his walk down the beach from Hanford Bay.
Regular as clockwork, George always had a story to share, and without fail offered his bartender a cocktail to wash down the tale.
For years after my eight year bartending tenure at Calico's and then Surfer's, I would walk the beach. Many times I was rewarded by a visit with George. If he wasn't actually on the water, he was thinking about being on the water.
If I didn't see him on the beach on windy days, I would suppose that he was that speck tethered to the windsurfer board, speeding across the horizon.
I truly cherish memories from wonderful days and nights, inhabited by George and so many of his friends. He will be greatly missed, and fondly remembered.

A great Jr. High football coach. He made one earn their starting position. He would tell it exactly the wayAlso watched him play it was. Will remember he and Coach Vona's cigars after wins. Also watched him play. He had a lot great road trip stories. May God bless all of his family.

I am very saddened today to hear about the passing of George. He was one of those larger than life personas from my childhood. I very much looked up to George as a role model. As a sports crazed North Tonawanda youth, I was extremely fortunate to have Coach D. as my Reszel JH football coach and as my NTHS track coach. Coaches mean SO much to kids as they are growing up and they are extemely influential in their lives and development. I know he was in mine. As I have been getting older and thinking about the old days, I meant to try and look up Coach to say thank you and to see how he was doing. I do regret that I didn't follow up on that. He was a very good man.
My heartfelt condolances go out to all of George's family.

Q: How would you describe George to someone who had never met them?
A: He managed to keep large numbers of junior high guys motivated and under control in gym and pool activities, and successfully coached large track and football teams. He was hands-off, low-key and respectful of us, yet held up good values. It was easy to talk with him when you had a question. He also set an example of cool and older-yet-youthful flare, and interest in staying fit. I picture him in his sunglasses. It was also impressive to see him helping to form, and leading on the field as a QB, a newly launched Twin-City Gemini local semi-pro football team.
