Obituary of Roger D Elwell Sr
Roger D. Elwell Sr, 71, 0f Silver Creek, NY passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, NY.
He was born on March 26, 1950 in Whiteville, N.C. the son of the late Eddie J. Jr. and Ocia Waunell (Walker) Elwell. He married Kathleen J. Wesley on July 19, 1969 in Fullerton, CA.
Roger graduated from Silver Creek High School “Class of 1968”, attended Fullerton Jr. College in Fullerton, CA. He worked for Ford Motor Co. where he held many different positions throughout his career. His commitment to Ford lead him to Pico Rivera, CA, Hazelwood, MO and finally Lackawanna, NY, retiring in March, 2000 with thirty years of Service. He also owned and operated a Concord Grape Farm with his wife Kathleen for thirty-nine years.
His memberships included the First United Presbyterian Church in Silver Creek, UAW Local # 936 in CA, UAW # 325 in MO and UAW # 897 in NY, National Grape Co-Operative/Welch’s since 1981 in Westfield, NY, the Cougar Club of America since 1997 and the Mustang Club of America for over twenty-five years.
Roger was passionate about “Classic Cars”, he just loved to collect them and currently he owned several classic cars. He enjoyed his guitar, the great outdoors and was known for his dry sense of humor.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Kathleen J. Elwell; five children, Jeanette (Bill Flowers) Elwell-Cossin, R. Dale (Melissa) Elwell Jr., Juliette (Bob Metzger) Elwell, Jayette (Steve) Hosmer, Janette (Willie) Kaminski and a son-in-law, Bob Heckathorn; nineteen cherished grandchildren, Stephanie, Christeina, Jessie (Siera), Jaymie, Julia (Jake Oglesbee), Janelle, Jaylah, Joy, Andrew (Sadie), Michael, Gabrielle, Mikayla, Cyrus, Sadie, Sandee, Sophia, Wyatt, Westin and Katelyn; ten great grandchildren; Noah, Zyra, Laylah, Mackenzie, Adrian, Aurora, Eighleigh, Waylon, Jayden and Henry; four siblings; Brenda (Jack) Lee, Edmund (Jean) Elwell, Barbara (Al) Van Dette, Thomas (Kathy) Elwell and a brother-in-law, Marc Fleming; also survived by many nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews; and his adoring feline companion, Duster.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jamiette Heckathorn, two grandsons, Michael Cossin and Chris Stull and a sister, Catherine Fleming.
Friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave. Silver Creek, NY on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the First United Presbyterian Church, 35 Park Pl. Silver Creek at 11 AM, the Rev. Thomas Burian will officiate. Burial will be made in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery.
