Obituary
Dean E. Martin,55, of Sheridan, NY passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon July 28,2019 surrounded by his loving family at Buffalo General Hospital after battling glioblastoma for 7 months.
Dean was born on May 14,1964 in Buffalo, NY the son of the late Elliott and Joanne (Triftshauser) Martin. He was a life long area resident graduating from Silver Creek High School in 1982 and SUNY Fredonia in 1986 with a Bachelor’s degree in History. He courted and married Marcie Maurer on September 7,1990 and they were married for 28 years.
Dean worked for Fruit Farms Inc. since his childhood taking it over in 1994 when his father passed away. Currently he was the Silver Creek Festival of Grapes” Grape Grower of the Year 2018”. His memberships included the National Grape Co-Op, an association in which his family was a founding father with his Uncle Bud Stebbins, the Tri-County Country Club where he played in the Thursday night Men’s League, the Sunset Drifters Snowmobile Club , Sheridan Volunteer Fire Department and the First United Presbyterian Church of Silver Creek in which he sang in the choir.
Dean’s passion was fishing , he loved his boat and would be on the lake whenever possible. He enjoyed skiing at Peak’n Peak resort with family and friends, hunting and sharing his man cave with his buddies. He had a green thumb for gardening, he was known for his “ tomatoes” and most of the vegetables he grew, he gave away to his friends, also Dean plowed in the winter for Busch Light. As you can ascertain he was known for his generosity, loyal friendship and he will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Marcie Martin of Sheridan; two daughters, Elizabeth (Richard) Ingoldsby and Christie Jo “Tootie” Martin both of Hamburg, NY; a son Elliott Martin of Sheridan, NY; cherished grandson, John Ingoldsby; a brother, Steven (Pamela) Henry of Denver, CO; a sister, Laura (David) Harford of Silver Creek ,NY; several aunts, nieces, nephews and many many close friends.
In addition to his parents, Dean is preceded in death by a brother, Michael J. Henry and his canine companion, “ seeing eye dog” Leah.
Relatives and friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave. Silver Creek, NY on Thursday, August 1,2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 2,2019 at the First United Presbyterian Church, 35 Park Place Silver Creek at 11:00a.m. with Pastor Thomas Burian and Pastor David Mills Co-officiating. ( Please assemble at the church). Interment will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.
