Obituary
Frank J. Dudek,75, of Silver Creek, NY passed away Sunday evening at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY with his loving wife at his side. He was born on September 3,1944 in Carthage, NY, the son of the late John and Rose (Tunia) Dudek.
Frank graduated from Hutchinson Tech School in Buffalo, NY “Class of 1962”. He then enrolled at Erie Community College (ECC) where he earned an Associate degree in drafting. Frank was a career employee for Community Steel Corp in Buffalo, retiring after 43 years of service.
He courted and married Joan Porter. They wed on June 28,1969 at St Francis R.C. Church in Corfu, NY and were married for more than 50 years at the time of his passing. In 1971 Frank and Joan relocated to Silver Creek from Buffalo following Joan’s brother Jerry and his wife Mary to Chautauqua County. He immediately became active in his new community. He is a past Silver Creek School District Board member, past president of the Silver Creek Kiwanis and a former member of the Tri-County Country Club.
Frank and Joan are long-term members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church in Silver Creek. Upon retirement, they became more involved with their church. Frank’s greatest joy besides his wife was being the sacristan of OLMC for over 12 years. He also was the recipient of the Spirit of St. Joseph Award in 2016, given to a person who best exemplifies generous, loving service to others, in the manner of St. Joseph.
Frank had many interests, he enjoyed photography, reading, his passion was Gettysburg. He and Joan visited the battlefields many times and Frank embraced the history. He was a student of Gettysburg and tourists would mistake him for being a tour guide because of his knowledge of the Battle of Gettysburg. He also was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan and a season ticket holder for the Buffalo Bisons (Sabres), Bills, and the Bandits. Last but not least he had a lifelong love of all spaniels.
Frank and Joan had no children of their own but were the aunt and uncle everybody wished they had. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Joan (Porter) Dudek; brother, Joseph (Suzanne) Dudek of Arlington, TX; sister-in-law, Mary Porter of Amherst, NY; three nieces, Linda(Chris) Drogi, Debra Fortin, and Liza Franz; two great nieces, Molly Fortin and Danielle (Steve) Biekert; a great great niece, Marlee Biekert; four nephews, Marc and Alex (Rafaela) Porter, Michael and Ethan Franz;
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law George A. and Jerry Porter, a sister-in-law, Alma Porter, nephew, George S. Porter, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Marie Porter.
