Obituary of Richard G. Azzarella
Obituary
Richard G. Azzarella, 83, of Dunkirk, NY formerly of Silver Creek passed away on Friday evening April 17,2020 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. He was born in Silver Creek on January 21,1937, the son of the late James and Dorothy (Schafer) Azzarella.
He attended Silver Creek High School where he and his brother excelled at baseball. They were the dynamic duo. Phil was a pitcher and Rich was the catcher. They both loved the game and tried out for the Detroit Tigers. He also was inducted into the Black Knights Hall of Fame for basketball.
Rich had various jobs throughout his life his primary job was taking care of his disabled mother until her passing.
He truly enjoyed sports especially the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Yankees. Lebron James was his favorite athlete. Rich loved to play scratch off tickets and the OTB in Dunkirk for horse racing.
Survivors include two sons, Salvatore “Sam” (Renee) Azzarella of Silver Creek, NY and Robert Tracey of Scranton, Pa.; a daughter, Cheryl Azzarella of Silver Creek; three grandchildren, Nicole (Dale) Miller, Brian and Joseph Azzarella; four great grandchildren, Peyton and Kendall (Laura) Azzarella, Ariah and Oaklynn Miller; a brother, James (Patty) Azzarella of Sheridan, NY.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother Phillip Azzarella.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no prior visitation or service at this time. Interment will be in Mt Carmel Cemetery, Silver Creek.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel 160 Central Ave. Silver Creek.
