He was predeceased by his parents, Gilbert and Laura (Arent) Tarrant.
Jeff was born in Buffalo, NY, graduated from Bennett High School, Class of 1958, and studied architectural drafting at Erie Community College. He loved the lake and family cottage in Sunset Bay and it was there that he spent his summers and most of his free time. Sunset Bay is where he met his sweetheart and wife of 53 years, Janet, and where they raised their family. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1962, eventually rising to the rank of Sergeant before leaving the service in 1967. After graduating from Paris Island, he served on the USS Boxer (LPH4) in the naval blockade of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the fall of 1962. Jeff spent his entire career in construction and derived great satisfaction in supervising and building numerous commercial and residential projects over the course of 50 years, some of which included Buffalo's Rapid Transit and the new Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Later in life, he took up decoy carving and his handcarved ducks and shore birds can be found today in the homes of his family, friends and throughout the United States and Europe. Jeff was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and who took a keen interest in educating his sons and grandchildren about nature and conservation. His memberships included the American Legion and the Sunset Bay Boat & Beach Club.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hospice Chautauqua County for their support in Jeff's final days. Donations in his memory can be made online at www.hospicechautco.org.
The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life Memorial in May; time and date to be announced.
Funeral arrangements are being conducted by the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY 14136.
