Obituary of Sylvia J. Smith
Sylvia J. Smith, 68, of Ontario Road, Irving, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at home.
She was born in Dunkirk, N.Y., on February 1, 1948, the daughter of the late John and Betty (Reading) Bemis. Sylvia was a Burnt Hills High School graduate, Class of 1966. She married the love of her life, Earl Smith, on April 15, 1962. She worked as a payroll clerk for the U.S. Air Force. The location changed depending on where her husband was stationed - in the States or in Europe. She also was employed by TLC/HN Lake Shore Hospital in Irving, N.Y., as a nursing assistant for a number of years.
Sylvia was the matriarch of her family, while Earl served our country in the Air Force all over the world. She enjoyed spending time with the family, especially her grandchildren, who she spoiled immensely. They would describe her as a strong, helpful and caring woman, who would do anything for them. Sylvia was an avid Facebook fan; this is how she would stay in touch with family and friends. Article Photos
